Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the enquiries we have received at Port Phillip Plantation Shutters

Customer:

Hello, what is the saving with ShutterKits?

PPPS:

After shopping around, you will find our unpainted kit is at least a 50% saving on a finished shutter.... You are saving even more by measuring and installing them yourself. Let me explain a little about ShutterKits and then I’ll explain the pricing format. They are the most economical way of buying the real thing. These are not cheap make believe synthetic off the shelf shutters, they are a traditional high quality timber product made to fit the measurements that you supply us.

ShutterKits are supplied with the popular 90mm eliptical blade as standard…and again, we specially make up the ShutterKit to fit your window dimensions.

This style comes with the centre adjusting control rod and 90mm louver eliptical blades.

ASSEMBLY

Customer:

Is it hard to put the ShutterKit together?

PPPS:

No! Once painted, the assembly is as simple as the average "assemble yourself" furniture, requiring no power tools. Fitting them is quite simple also.

Customer:

How long does it take to assemble a ShutterKit?

PPPS:

Not long at all once the painting is completed. I'd say less than 30 minutes for a 2 metre high shutter, especially with another set of hands to help.

TIMBER USED

Customer:

What timber is used in ShutterKits?

PPPS:

Our most popular timber is Paulownia which has been specially imported from its native Asia and is now an Australian Plantation timber, grown in four states of Australia.

Paulownia resembles Western Red Cedar in weight and strength, increasingly being used in the marine industry. Recent tests at the University of W.A. and the University of Queensland have proven Paulownia extremely stable, termite resistant. The timber is gathering rave reviews world wide.

Rainforests are definitely not being ravaged to harvest Paulownia.

Customer:

What colour is the timber?

PPPS:

Paulownia is light in weight and pale blonde in colour with it's own character but approximately the same strength as Cedar. It has a magic feel like a firm balsa wood. It is very light to hang and can be painted or stained to resemble any timber. Unlike Cedar it is easily limed and when painted does not experience oily seepage.

SUPPLY AND FINISHING

Customer:

How are the ShutterKits supplied to us?

PPPS:

ShutterKits are supplied raw and cut to your window size and ready for your preparation.

We supply all the technical know how Instruction Sheets and if these instructions are followed, the average DIY handy person should achieve a comparable finish to the more expensive shutters on the market.

MEASURING UP

Customer:

How do I measure my window to order ShutterKits?

PPPS:

Most people prefer to put their shutters inside the window frame, but this is not always possible. Shutters may also be mounted in some applications on the face of your window opening i.e. on the wall or architrave.

Measure horizontally across the top of your window, then across the centre and the bottom.

Measure vertically in 3 places also.

It also pays to measure from corner to corner. This will indicate if your windows are in 'square' or out of 'plumb'.

Now If you can supply us with rough dimensions we’d be glad to give you a ballpark figure or you can visit our Pricing Page here on our website.

Customer:

My window is 490mm wide by 1956mm high, what would be the cost for this size?

PPPS:

Well, following our ready reckoner, that is $299 for the raw kit.

Customer:

What is included with the kit?

PPPS:

We supply necessary glue, screws, and comprehensive painting and assembly instructions.

Customer:

Can you supply the Shutters Complete and assembled?

PPPS:

No, we are ShutterKit manufacturers, selling direct to the public at wholesale prices, but that doesn't stop trades people taking advantage of our extremely competitive price. If assembly frightens you, a handy person or home maintenance person could perform the assembly and installation for you.

Customer:

How long before I get my shutters?

PPPS:

We are quoting up to 10 working days to complete your ShutterKits, but this can change either way at any time.

DEPOSIT REQUIRED

Customer:

Do you require a deposit?

PPPS:

Yes, there is a 50% up front deposit before any work is commenced and the balance prior to dispatch.

DELIVERY

Customer:

Do you deliver interstate?

PPPS:

Yes. 50% of our ShutterKits are sent off to all parts of Australia. Rates are quoted on application but the average postage and packaging is roughly 8% of the purchase price with a minimum of $28 for this service.

Thank you for looking.
